AGP: Game Design – Week 1

The format for submitting work for assessment on the course is quite nice in that you upload pictures of your work and write a short reflection. Both components are required in order to complete your assignment.

However, you also have to rate (out of 5) and comment on at least 3 other participants works.

I think this excellent as it not only encourages you to keep track of what you fellow students are up to and provide them feedback, but it also means you’ll get feedback too.

Assignment 1

  1. Using Photoshop, make a crate texture and a tiling rock texture to use in your game. (Later you’ll create a terrain in Unity, and you’ll use the rock texture there. However, you can use the same technique to create any other terrain textures — such as grass, gravel, sand, etc. — to make your own island terrain look unique. The crate will be wrapped around a cube to create some shipwrecked crates in the game. Feel free to make textures for other simple models such as wooden planks or platforms.
  2. Reflect on this week’s learning, your hopes and ambitions for your learning during this course and the learning outcomes you hope to achieve.

Reflection

I created this using a photo I had of a flat, but quite rough rock surface that was lit on a very overcast day. Thought it would be perfect for this assignment.

I originally forgot to attach my crate texture…. I enjoyed creating this as it allowed an element of creativity in its construction.
